Hi. I would appreciate support and guidance on my situation. I am Swedish citizen and until May 2025 I was living and working in Sweden. Then in May 2025 i moved to live in Denmark, but continued to work in Sweden. Now I will lose my job from 1st September and want to apply for unemployment benefit. I understand i need to do that in Denmark, but i did not work in Denmark a single day. What are the steps and documents needed to apply for benefit?
Additionally, i became A-kasse memeber only in November 2024, so by the time i lose my job I will be 10 months member. Should i wait till November to apply or i can apply directly after 1st September?7. august 2025 kl. 8:57 #810supportKeymasterHi,
your situation is cross-border work. Special EU-rules applies for cross border workers in the event of unemployment.
In this situation its correct that you must apply for unemployment benefits in Denmark (where you live). You are member in a swedish A-kasse, because you work in Sweden.
You shall receive unemployment benefits in accordance with the legislation in Denmark.
This means that you must meet the requirements in Denmark for being eligible for unemployment benefits.
You can read about the requirements here: https://www.a-kasser.dk/requirements/.You need to have been member of an A-kasse for 1 year. Member periods from A-kasse in Sweden will be counted. Also periods where you (only) have been member of Alfa-kassan can be used.
If you do not have the required 12 months period its not possible to get dagpenge in Denmark. But when you get unemployed you should change A-kasse to a danish A-kasse. Its important that you dont have gaps in your membership. So don’t cancel membership in Sweden before you are sure that your are member of an danish A-kasse.
From when you can get dagpenge the danish A-kasse must tell you after you become member. But you probably have to wait until you have 1 year of (total) membership.
To help the danish A-kase with processing your case you should apply for a PD U1 document from the swedish A-kasse. This document tells about your insurance periods in Sweden.
And you should have payment notices/documentation ready for your income in Sweden.
