I moved from Germany to Denmark last June 2023.

I didn’t know about the 8 week registration rule and still haven’t joining A kasser.

    1. Can I no longer transfer benefits?
    2. I didn’t actually find a register to become a member option on this website, how do I actually join A kasser? Is it https://min-a-kasse.dk/?

    Hi,

I assume you talk about the possibility to transfer acquired rights regarding Unemployment Insurance (work and insurance period) between EU-countries.

In this way you can get easier access to Unemployment Benefits in your new EU-country, because work/income and insurance period from your “home” EU-country will be included when the relevant authority (in Denmark: “A-kasse”) has to calculate if you meet the requirements for being eligible for Unemployment benefits (in Denmark: “dagpenge”).

But you are right there is a 8 week deadline. You must sign up with a danish A-kasse at latest 8 week after you ceased to be insured in your EU “home” country. So you can no longer get your insurance period from Germany included in a danish A-kasse, when you apply for Unemployment benefits (“dagpenge”) in Denmark.

The option of transfering Unemployment benefits (also called export of Unemployment benefits) is another thing. Your are only able to transfer Unemployment benefits if you look for job in another EU-country, and only for 3-6 months depending on which EU-country you are coming from.

Before you sign up for A-kasse in Denmark, you must be aware that its only a good idea if you are an EU-citizen or have a permanent residence permit. Otherwise you will not be able to meet the requirement of being available for the labour market.

Its easy to sign up for A-kasse – it can be done online. Please read more about how to sign up here:

    Hope it helps you.

    Best regards,
