    Hello,

I am Jorge De La Cruz. My residency permit is in Denmark. Can I subscribe to A-kasse as a Ph.D. student at Aalborg University? My Danish bank account is currently open.

    Kind Regards
    Jorge De La Cruz

    Hi,

I assume that you have been granted a danish residence permit as a full degree PhD.
When you have been granted this type of permit, you must support yourself and your accompanying family members by using your own funds.

    What does this means?
If you are an employed PhD student receiving a salary, you are not allowed to receive cash benefits, start help or any other benefits under the terms of the Active Social Policy Act.

If you are a PhD student without receiving a salary you are not allowed to receive any support from an authority. This also include
unemployment benefits from a danish A-kasse.

However, regardless of what kind of PhD student permit you hold, when you finish your PhD you are only allowed to stay in Denmark to look for job (not work). You will normally be granted the 3-year job seeking permit along with your residence permit.

If you are offered a job during the job seeking period, you must apply for a new residence and work permit based on work.

And a job seeking permit is also on the condition that you can support yourself and your family during your stay.

This means that it does not give meaning for you to become member of an A-kasse. You will not be able to benefit from it.

    Best regards,
    Anders Weber, A-kasser.dk
