A-Kasser membership over 30 student

Hi,

I am a 31-year-old Multimedia Design (AP degree) student.
As far as I know despite that I am a student I am not eligible for free student A-Kasser membership because of my age.
I will finish my AP degree studies by June 2020 and don’t know yet if I want to apply for Top-up immediately after. (I would prefer to look for a job right after I finish and consider Top-up after I have collected some work experience in this field)
My question would be when should I subscribe to the latest to A-Kasser membership if I want to be eligible for dagpenge (Unemployment benefit) after my studies?

Thanks in advance,

Hi,

regardless of you want to continue on top-up or look for job, then you should become member of an A-kasse and register as graduated at latest 2 weeks after graduation.

By doing this you can start getting unemployment benefits ("dagpenge") when you want up to two years after graduation. So regardless of which of the two ways you decide to go, you will be able to get dagpenge, if you find out it was a wrong decision you made. For example if you have to drop out of Top-Up, or you start job but have to stop/get fired after for example 3 months.

So you can always use your "graduate-rights" up to two years after finishing study. You do not need to meet further requirements.
